Why Unlearning is The Most Important Leadership Skill in The Age of AI

The biggest challenge in the age of AI isn’t just learning faster.
It’s being willing to change faster 💙

That’s one of the thoughts I’ve been reflecting on since participating in a panel this week at BankDiscount’s “Shaping the Future – HR” conference.

We talked about AI, resilience, continuous learning, and the kind of leadership this new reality requires.

And the question I keep coming back to is no longer just:

What new skills do we need to acquire?

But also:

What do we need to be willing to let go of to keep evolving?

Because AI isn’t just giving us new tools.

It’s challenging roles, assumptions, and ways of working that we’ve relied on for years.

And that requires not only learning, but also unlearning.

Recognizing that what got us here won’t necessarily get us where we need to go next.

Questioning what we think we already know.

Staying curious.

Embracing a beginner’s mind.

And this is where, for me, resilience and learning come together.

Resilience isn’t just the ability to endure change.

It’s also the ability to let go of what no longer works – even when we don’t yet know what will replace it.

This is one of the most important tasks for HR and leaders today:

To build organizations that don’t just keep learning, but are capable of reinventing themselves while in motion.

Thank you to Keren Youldus-Dalal, PhD, and Discount Bank בנק דיסקונט for the invitation and to the panel moderator Vardit Hasson Bat and my fellow panelists. Yael Rotem-Sher and Ilil Negbi for a meaningful, thought-provoking conversation.

In the age of AI, our advantage won’t be defined only by what we’re able to learn – but also by what we’re willing to let go of.
